Acclaimed director Kevin Macdonald presents a documentary about Bob Marley, through the eyes of his close friends and family, which is sure to interest both fans and non-fans alike.
Marley was born in 1945 in Jamaica. His family, in a series of interviews, tell the story of his life and how he came from humble origins. The ganja loving Marley later went on to found Bob Marley and The Wailers in 1963. Although raised in a Christian household, later on in life Marley would declare himself a Rastafarian; making him one of the most prominent in the religion.
The band's album, Catch A Fire, was their debut on a major label (they were signed to Island Records). Released in 1973, it has since gone on to be a classic, reaching number 123 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Their next album, Burnin', spawned two of Marley's most famous singles: I Shot The Sheriff and Get Up, Stand Up.
Bob Marley and The Wailers continued up until 1981, following Marley's untimely death from cancer.
