Although Bob Hope couldn't make his own party for health reasons, Hollywood turned out in force to name him CITIZEN OF THE CENTURY yesterday (15APR03).

Hope's daughter LINDA appeared in her British-born father's place saying, "It's such a touching thing for me to hear these words from all these people. I think we will be watching the television because there will be things all over the country honouring him."

Entertainer Hope turns 100 on 29 May (03) and was honoured for his work in the movies since the 1930's.

Paramount producer AC LYLES says, "He is the biggest thing that has happened for us at Paramount. He was the apex of stars."

And Connie Stevens paid tribute to his loyalty to his adopted nation.

She says, "He really really loved America. He should have 50 stars, a stamp and a day in his name."

Actress Eva Marie Saint, who starred with Hope in three films, echoed these sentiments.

She says, "He never boasted about his resume - he's a legend and an icon. There is so much love for him and so much appreciation. If you look at a Bob Hope movie when you are down or have the 'flu' and it's like chicken soup."

FRASIER star Kelsey Grammer expressed his respect for "a guy who made me laugh a lot".
