Celebrated Britpop band Blur have described their forthcoming album as unambitious punk rock, because they lack a talented guitarist following Graham Coxon's refusal to rejoin the group

Modest frontman Damon Albarn wants fans to be prepared for a completely different sound because he will be playing guitar on the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2003's THINK TANK.

Coxon quit the band in 2002 to pursue a solo career but there were hopes he would return to work on Blur's eighth studio album which is expected to be completed next year (06).

Albarn says, "We decided that if we're going to make another record it's just got to be the three of us and I've got to play guitar.

"And because I'm such a rudimentary guitarist it has to be really stupid and basic punk rock."
