Final box-office figures on Monday confirmed that Universal's Dr. Seuss' The Lorax did indeed sell more tickets than any other movie this year. Although its actual take was about a half-million dollars less than estimates, the movie wound up with $70.22 million. That was significantly higher than the $50 million that most experts had predicted the movie would earn prior to its opening on Friday. " The Lorax absolutely blew away expectations," veteran box-office pundit Paul Dergarabedian told Bloomberg News on Monday. Although the film had received a drubbing from many film critics, Universal was able to take advantage of the recent dearth of animated family fare this year -- and families' appetite for it. The "found footage" flick Project X opened in second place with $21 million, while last week's winner, Act of Valor , fell to third place with $13.6 million.
