Chloe Dobinson's Top Ten Albums Of 2016

Kings Of Leon The Last Shadow Puppets Kanye West Catfish And The Bottlemen Two Door Cinema Club Jake Bugg Jack Garratt Drake Bloc Party Beyonce Knowles

Here is a recap of my best albums of 2016 including a diverse range of genres and musicians compiling my list featuring the likes of Kings Of Leon, Drake and Jake Bugg.

The Last Shadow Puppets, Kings Of Leon and Kanye West

The Last Shadow Puppets - Everything you've Come to Expect
An 8 year wait marks a return for duo the Last Shadow Puppets offering Everything you've Come to Expect and my number one in the top 10 of 2016. Aviation is charming and seductive being described as psychedelic pop hooking the listening from the get go. Miracle Aligner, Everything you've Come to Expect and Bad Habits all have lyrics and roll of the tongue song titles with its smart production of James Ford with a simple yet effective sound.

Various Artists - [PIAS] Alternative Spirit Album Review

When you think of the words alternative spirit you think -upbeat, raucous indie-pop music and that's exactly what this new PIAS compilation album provides. The album consists of 39 tracks from artists such as Roisin Murphy, Basement Jaxx and Fleet Foxes.

[PIAS] Alternative Spirit - Album Review

Alt-J's Left 'Hand Free' is a fun opening track with its catchy hooks and upbeat melodies - a perfect intro that leads into The Black Keys track 'Tighten Up' which is one of the compilations many highlights. With a raw, blues sound it's everything you'd want (and expect) from a Black Keys track.

One of the more guitar heavy tracks comes courtesy of Bloc Party and their contribution '3x3'. Its hard-hitting vocal and frantic playing remind us just how good their album 'Four' (which the song was featured on) was.

Bloc Party Announce They're Currently Recording Their Fifth Album

Bloc Party Kele Okereke

Can I have either a drumroll or a medieval trumpet fanfare please? Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke has confirmed that the group has begun work on its fifth album!

The indie four-piece last released a studio record in 2012, entitled Four, before following it up with a five-song EP The Nextwave Sessions and announcing their hiatus the following year. Not much of a hiatus, as it turns out, as new material is currently being finessed with a release to be anticipated by the end of 2015.

Bloc Party Kraftwerk Foals Eddie Izzard Jessie Ware Sean Lock

Within it's scenic woodland surroundings, Henham Park in Southwold, Suffolk, was once again the place to be this past weekend (19 - 21 July) as the worlds of music, arts, comedy, cabaret and more all mixed seamlessly together for a weekend to remember.

Bloc Party
Bloc Party rounded off the first day

Although it was Bloc Party who headlined the main-stage on the first night (Friday 19 July), revellers didn't have to wait around to get their first taste of the wonders of festival-life. With the Maccabees, Yo La Tengo and The Leisure Society coming before them, one of the most warmly received acts came from one of the smaller stages, the BBC Radio 6 stage. Texas were the headliners of the night and despite their more radio-friendly sound ging against the alternative grain most of the festival takes, their renditions of 'I Don’t Want a Lover,' 'Summer Son' and a host of new tracks had the audience eating out of singer Sharleen Spiteri's hands. Meanwhile Japandroids and DIIV were among the bigger names on the smaller stages, whilst Lee Nelson and Sean Lock were among those bringing the laughs to the Comedy Stage.

Latitude Festival Bloc Party Foals Kraftwerk Local Natives James Blake

Henham Park in Southwold, Suffolk once again held the coming together of music, comedy, arts and more in it's scenic woodland surroundings to a rapturous reception from the many revellers who travelled to see the likes of Foals, Kraftwerk, Texas and Bobby Womack rub shoulders with the likes of Eddie Izzard, Dylan Moran and Daniel Kitson. And that's just scratching the surface of what was on show.

On the first day (Friday 19 July) Bloc Party lit up the main-stage, having seen the likes of the Maccabees, Yo La Tengo and The Leisure Society come before them. Elsewhere, on the smaller BBC Radio 6 stage, Texas were the headliners of the night, with Willy Mason, Villagers, Beth Orton and more coming before them, whilst Japandroids and DIIV were among the bigger names on the smaller stages. Meanwhile, bringing the laughs to the comedy stage was Lee Nelson and Sean Lock, to name but two.

Bloc Party, Four Album Review

Rewind back to three years ago and things weren't, on the surface, going swimmingly for team Bloc Party. The group's third album Intimacy was their worst critically and commercially received album thus far, whilst one-off single 'One More Chance' saw front man Kele Okereke fully relegate his band to 'Kele & The Bloc Parties' status. In fact it's pretty much just Kele, as he takes the heavily electronic sound first found on 2007's 'Flux' and explored further on 'Intimacy' to fully brash levels, poor Gordon Moakes, Matt Tong and Russell Lissack - fine players all on their respective tools - erased. Thankfully, a break is called; either because Kele wants to get all this euro-trance out of his system in private, or maybe because the others feel they might be serving their time better than just standing around in the sound control room watching the singer do his stuff.
