Blake Lively has written a moving post on Instagram, explaining why she decided to take part in the Women’s March in New York City on Saturday.

The actress shared a photo of herself on Instagram posing beside a little girl in a wheelchair holding a sign which read, "Let's make American kind again,” and explained that as a mom of two girls, the march was particularly important to her.

"I marched for my daughters, for my friends, for strangers, for myself, for Phoebe here in this picture who I met as she motivated everyone she came across," Lively wrote.

"My march wasn't driven by hate. It was rooted in a very simple fact -- we are all equal. I believe everyone can agree on that. Thank you to everyone who marched all over the world. I felt so hopeful and deeply grateful. #whyimarch.”

Lively, who is married to Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, has two daughters, one-year-old James and three-month-old Ines. At the march in New York Lively was reunited with her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-star Amber Tamblyn.

The two actresses posed for a cute selfie together, which Tamblyn posed on her Instagram account and captioned, ‘Sister #2 located in NYC march!’. Earlier in the day Tamblyn had met their other Sisters co-star America Ferrera at the march in Washington, D.C. and posed for a selfie with her, which she captioned, 'Sisters for life. For real. Forever".
