Like Benjamin Button, this drama plays around with the human lifespan, is slickly produced and feels far too serious for its own good. There's a sweeping romanticism to the premise, but it's ultimately so sentimental that it becomes rather corny. Fans of Nicholas Sparks-style movies will adore every golden-hued moment and yearning glance. More cynical viewers will enjoy the premise and performances, but will find the tidal wave of plot twists too yucky to bear.
In present-day San Francisco, Adaline (Blake Lively) is preparing to change identities as she does every decade or so. She's been 29 since a fateful accident in 1933 stopped her ageing process, due to a convergence of random factors at the time of a car crash, and she doesn't want to arouse suspicion. The only person who knows her secret is her daughter Flemming (Ellen Burstyn), who after all this time now introduces herself as Adaline's grandmother. Then the dashing Ellis (Michiel Huisman) tenaciously starts pursuing Adaline, and Flemming encourages her to stop running. So she decides to let herself live for a change, travelling with Ellis for a weekend to meet his parents (Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker). But fate has a few more surprises in store.
The story is told by an omniscient narrator (Hugh Ross) and camerawork that often stares down from a godlike point of view, as if Adaline has no say in her own story. And without a sense of humour or irony, it's tricky for a film audience to root for her. The story is engaging, and it's enjoyable to watch the events unfold, but the moment the plot loudly clanks into gear the film becomes difficult to like. Revelations and coincidences pile on top of each other in the story's final act, making everything both achingly emotional and suspiciously convenient.

Blake is back on our screens in ‘The Age of Adaline’, but her daughter James is what’s really keeping her busy.
She might be starring in The Age of Adaline on the big screen but Blake Lively’s most important role in recent months has been as a mother, to her five month old daughter James. The 27 year old actress has been speaking about the demands of motherhood as she promotes her new movie, comparing it to ‘living with a drug addict’ as you’re faced with the ‘constant unexpected’.
Blake is a new mom to daughter James with husband Ryan Reynolds.
In an interview with the LA Times Lively said, "Having a baby is just living in the constant unexpected. You never know when you're gonna get crapped on or when you're gonna get a big smile or when that smile immediately turns into hysterics. It might be like living with a drug addict.”

The star took on personas from unusual sources.
'The Age Of Adaline' is released in the US today and it sure looks to be a movie with many layers. Playing a woman who ceases to age and lives as a young woman throughout the 20th century can't be easy, but Blake Lively reveals she looked at unusual sources for inspiration.
Blake Lively embodies her 'Age Of Adaline' character
The 'Gossip Girl' star plays Adaline Bowman in the slightly mystical romantic drama, which sees her character rendered ageless following an accident. While the idea of immortality is seemingly appealing, the movie explores how it complicates her life; constantly faced with love affairs that must end and even a daughter who she must live to see pass away. For a young woman, she surprises all she meets over her long life with her sense of poise and wisdom, but where exactly did her character's personality come from?
Some dresses deserve to never be forgotten.
Tribeca Film Festival was once again a roaring success this week, with some incredible films on show and not to mention some seriously jaw-dropping sights on the red carpet. Blake Lively completely stole the show with her variety of style statements, but there was one dress in particular that caught our eye.
Blake Lively looked incredible at Tribeca Film Festival
If anyone is trend-setting at the 2015 New York event, it's 'The Age Of Adaline' star. She completely took everyone's breath away as she showed off a sensational red dress with a feathered skirt. The lace top half with its nude under-layer and flattering halter-neck clung to the actress' enviably slender frame; you wouldn't know just by looking at her that she had given birth to a daughter only four months previously.
Following a three-year break from acting to be a mother, Blake Lively has struggled to channel those feelings for her maternal role in 'The Age of Adaline'.
In 'The Age of Adaline', Blake Lively plays a young mother who remains permanently 29 after an accident, watching her daughter grow up and become a grandmother herself. This is Lively's first film in three years, after taking a break to marry Ryan Reynolds and give birth to their daughter James, now 4 months old.

"After I wrapped 'Gossip Girl' I took about a year off because I was just tired." she says. "We worked 10 months a year, 16 to 18 hours a day. So I just wanted a break. I read a bunch of scripts and there were a few movies that I liked, but this is the first one that I thought, 'I can't not do this movie.' So I talked my way into it!"

In 1908, a young girl was born. She was not extraordinary, and lived a simple existence. Then one day, everything changed forever. In 1935, Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) was caught up in a horrifying car crash, yet she emerged unharmed. It would be years before she knew that anything was wrong with her, however. Over the course of nearly eight decades, she does not appear to age a day, leading to her becoming detached and solitary existence. Every so often, she begins a relationship with someone, and after going to meet the parents of her boyfriend, Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman), she discovers that his father (Harrison Ford) and she were in a relationship many years before, leading to a new set of problems facing her otherwise extraordinary life.

According to sources, Beyonce parted with a hefty sum of money for her pet charity.
Any and all elevator-related incidents from last month were forgotten at Tuesday night’s Chime for Change anniversary event, held by Gucci director Creative Director Frida Giannini and T Magazine editor-in-chief Deborah Needleman at Gucci Fifth Avenue in New York City, which Beyonce and Solange Knowles attended together. The sisters rocked complementary outfits, with Bey opting for a white halter jumpsuit and Solange sporting white trousers and a bright orange shirt. Very 90s, we approve.

Last week we were oohing and aahing over the breathtaking display of dresses on show at the Cannes Film Festival. This week, nothing's changed, if anything we’re even more envious of the fabulous fashions coming out of the annual film festival. As the festivities continue, Blake Lively is still our red carpet queen but competition has just gotten stiffer, with Suki Waterhouse, Julianne Moore and even Cheryl Cole showcasing some spectacular gowns as Cannes continues for another week.
Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds, both wearing Gucci
Let’s start with Blake Lively again, we’ve said it before, we might as well just crown Blake as our red carpet queen for 2014 now. On Friday Blake owned the red carpet again, this time in a stunning monochrome Gucci Premiere gown for the premiere of husband Ryan Reynold’s The Captive. As dreamy as Ryan was in his Gucci tux and white bow tie, it was hard for us to take our eyes off Blake, who, once again, looked every inch the vintage Hollywood starlet.
Ryan Reynolds was booed at the Cannes Film Festival for his movie 'The Captive'
Ryan Reynolds was booed at the Cannes Film Festival this week for his latest movie The Captive - an abduction thriller dubbed "ludicrous" by industry mag Variety. In fact, the hostility to Atom Egoyan's movie was so intense that Reynolds was a no-show for the film's afterparty, according to Us Weekly.

You can always count on the Cannes Film Festival to have one of the year’s most glamorous red carpets, but this time around the stars just might have outdone themselves. We’re only a few days into the festivities and we’ve already been treated to a dazzling array of gowns to lust after. From Blake Lively to Kendall Jenner, here’s our best of the Cannes fashion so far.
Blake Lively's stunning Chanel Couture
It might seem too early in the race to declare a winner, but Blake Lively could be this year’s best dressed actress. We’d only just stopped dreaming about her breathtaking Met Ball gown when she arrived at the Grace of Monaco premiere in another dazzling Gucci creation. The two tone red chiffon dress boasted a form fitting bodice and a thigh high slit, while Blake wore her hair pulled back and kept the make-up minimal.

The First Lady was joined by Harvey Weinstein, Whoopi Goldberg, Blake Lively and other Hollywood mainstays in the chat
First Lady Michelle Obama presented a filmmakers workshop at the White House on Friday, 8 November, to promote careers in the entertainment industry to a group of high school students. Obama enlisted the help of Harvey Weinstein, Whoopi Goldberg, Ryan Coogler, Bruce Cohen, Blake Lively and a myriad of other Hollywood stars as part of an a-list forum aimed at encouraging kids to look towards the film and TV industry as a possible career path.
The all-star panel capped off a day of activities for high schools students gathered from Boston, Washington, D.C. and New York meeting in the capital. The First Lady aims to promote careers in the entertainment industry outside of acting and directing, as well as hopefully inspiring a generation of future Oscar winners.
"It just doesn’t take technical knowledge to succeed in the movie business. It is not just about being the best actor, or creating the best special effects,” the First Lady said (via The Warp). “It is about having grit.”
Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli was apparently brought to tears by a picture of her ex-boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio with actress Blake Lively only months after the couple split up. The model first met 'Django Unchained' star at a Las Vegas party hosted by U2, and went on to date each other for six years before separating in May, 2011. She admitted that she was shocked to discover that he had moved on so quickly with Lively.
In an interview with Israeli newspaper 'Yedioth Ahronoth', Refaeli explained her reaction to seeing the picture, saying: "I suddenly choked up and I started crying uncontrollably. No one knows that I went back to my room and broke down in bitter tears. I couldn't stop crying." She never cried over him again, however, as she stated: "It was like I was cleansed. From that day, I haven't cried since."
Nobody really knows what to expect from Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity'
George Clooney's new movie Gravity, about two astronauts stranded in space, will open the 70th edition of the Venice Film Festival on August 28, 2013. The 3D movie by acclaimed director Alfonso Cuaron, will hit theaters in the U.S. on October 4, 2013 and is already drumming up anticipation thanks largely to an intriguing teaser trailer.
"It is a very odd film, really," Clooney told USA Today in 2011, the year before Gravity was originally set to be released. "Two people in space. No monsters. It's more like 2001 (A Space Odyssey) than an action film." It's been a long road to get the movie to screen, with Robert Downey Jr originally pencilled in for the male lead before dropping out of the project and opening the door for Clooney.
Producers originally settled on Sandra Bullock for the female lead after reportedly testing French actress Marion Cotillard and mulling over the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively. Natalie Portman was apparently offered the role without a screen test following her Oscar winning performance in Black Swan, though passed on the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Leonardo DiCaprio has explained why he fails to hold down serious relationships.
Leonardo Dicaprio has been linked to shall we say 'several' of the world's most beautiful woman. Let's just leave it that. However, the 38-year-old has been unable to hold down a serious relationship for years: why?
The 'Wolf of Wall Street' actor has reportedly dated Bar Refaeli, Erin Heatherton, Blake Lively, Aferdita Dreshaj and Margot Robbie, though he tells the May issue of Esquire that working hard and maintaining a relationship is simply not an easy thing to balance. "Six months of being on location or being off in Morocco or someplace like that is not the best thing for a relationship," he explained.
It's not difficult to take what DiCaprio is saying as the truth. He's easily one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood and since 2006 has starred in Blood Diamond, Body of Lies, Revolutionary Road, Shutter Island, Inception, J. Edgar, Django Unchained and new movies The Great Gatsby and The Wolf of Wall Street. Despite all that effort, Leonardo still regards himself as being incredibly fortunate to be in the position he's in. "I always thought of myself as the underdog, because I didn't have nice enough clothes or maybe my hair didn't look good" he explained, adding, "And so you have to understand-getting your foot in the door is like winning the lottery. It's literally like winning the lottery if you get to have a career [In Hollywood]."

There must have been something in the air this year because we literally had too many celebrity weddings to choose from for this list (sorry Alec Baldwin, you can stop reading now, you got bumped), and it was a tough job whittling it down to 10. So, who DID make the grade in our run-down 2012’s best nuptials?
What was the highlight of actress Amber Tamblyn and actor David Cross’ wedding? Well, sadly, even Tamblyn’s stunning gown couldn’t upstage the antics of their unofficial photographer, Questlove. The happy snapper not only DJ’d at the wedding, but also decided to take a number of pics of the happy couple and stick them on his Instagram account. The Roots drummer revealed pretty much everything from the bride’s arrival, to the cutting of the cake, using the hashtag #weddinginthewoods. So, Amber and David – you just about made the grade, but you have your crazy DJ to thank for it.
