That's My Boy Trailer

In his early teens, the immature and irresponsible Donny Berger struck up a brief romance with his school teacher resulting in her pregnancy. When she is jailed for having a sexual relationship with a minor, Donny is forced to raise the child (who he names Han Solo) until Hans' eighteenth birthday. Twelve years later, Donny owes $43,000 to the IRS which he must pay to avoid three years in jail. He recognises Han Solo in a magazine under the new name of Todd Peterson and reads that he is the one of the youngest hedge fund managers in the financial industry and is engaged to be married. Todd's world is turned upside down when his father (who he had attempted to erase from his life completely) turns up the day before his wedding wanting to spend quality time with his son, while really seeking help with his debt problem. The reunion forces Donny to accept the consequences of his terrible parenting.

Strange Wilderness Review

Weak
Take the second-tier crew from both Adam Sandler's posse (Allen Covert, Peter Dante) and Judd Apatow's regulars (Jonah Hill, Justin Long) and throw them together in a comedic spin on a Wild Kingdom type set and what do you get? A few chuckles rolled in with a lot of gross-out humor.

Steve Zahn headlines the directorial debut of Joe Dirt screenwriter Fred Wolf, playing Peter Gaulke, the stoner son of a famous Crocodile Hunter-like dad whose show Strange Wilderness was once a mega-hit. After dad died and Peter took over, things went downhill, with Peter turning in episodes punctuated by absurd narration and questionable nature... unless you count girls flashing their breasts in the shrubs behind the office building "nature." Peter defends the segment, of course, claiming them to be "natives."

50 First Dates Review

Bad
It's like a Valentine's Day present from Adam Sandler - if he hated us, each and every one. There's a funny man somewhere inside of Sandler, but he only makes brief appearances on movie screens; and unfortunately he keeps making comedies, even when he shouldn't. The perfect example of a comedy that never should have been, 50 First Dates provides pretty much nothing in the laughs department but, just to be cruel, gives audiences a taste, but just a taste, of the romantic story buried underneath all the caca jokes.

In the world of 50 First Dates, we're supposed to believe that Sandler - whose name this time out is Henry Roth, if it matters - is a veterinarian and ladies man who only romances tourists due to his commitment phobia. When he's not loving and leaving, Henry is giving all the sordid details of said behavior to his best buddy Ula (Rob Schneider sporting a tatty wig and accent that should have the Hawaiian Anti-Defamation League in arms) and elicits cute reaction shots from his animal patients and buddies, like some sort of evil Dr. Doolittle. But then he meets adorable Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore) at a café and falls hard for her. They plan to meet the next day, but when he shows up, she has no idea who the hell he is.

Little Nicky Review

Terrible

Having now seen "Little Nicky," in which Adam Sandler plays the retarded son of Satan, I have formulated a hypothesis I'm calling the Sandler Theory of Exponentially Obnoxious Returns. It goes something like this:

Adam Sandler goes out of his way to make each gimmick character he plays ("Billy Madison," "Happy Gilmore") more grating than the last, just to see how far he can push it before his easily amused fan base will turn on him.

His most detestable character to date had been "The Waterboy," but that Southern-fried dope was mister congeniality compared to Nicky, the little devil that couldn't. Sandler spends this entire movie with his face screwed up in a hit-by-a-shovel grimace and speaking in a silly, raspy voice like a little kid pretending to be sick so he can stay home from school. There's no joke here. It's just Sandler's version of stretching as an actor.

50 First Dates Review

OK

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have some kind of remarkable romantic-comedy alchemy together that makes him seem like a genuine catch of a lovable man-boy and makes her flightiness seem cute.

In "The Wedding Singer" they turned one of Hollywood's most insipid clichés (the guy in love must save the apparently blind and stupid girl from marrying a jerk) into a funny little charmer despite its dependence on a "remember when" gimmick of 1980s excess.

They've succeeded again in "50 First Dates," in which Sandler plays a Sea World veterinarian and commitment-phobe who habitually seduces pretty tourists into one-week flings (yeah, right!), and Barrymore stars as the girl who finally captures his heart -- a bright-eyed darling with short term memory loss, so the poor guy has to keep wooing her over and over and over.
