London/ Colorado conceptual artist and musician Blackbird And The Storm (aka Marie-Juliette Bird) unveils her new single 'Black Crow' taken from her upcoming debut album 'The Water Is Rising' which is scheduled for release on February 17th 2014 through Rare Records.
It's an unusual accompanying video, featuring Marie frantically writing music notes with a quill and wearing black wings on her back. We also see a doll's house getting flooded in a stream while sound bites from newscasts regarding serious floods are played over the music. Similar sound bites are used on the opening, with a robotic style speaking intro coupled with eerie crow calls. Later, various sounds such as sirens and thunder are sampled alongside catchy rock hooks, upbeat guitar ruffs and echoing vocals that infuse the track with atmosphere.
'The sirens that I used in the beginning of 'Black Crow' - these are flood warning sirens that I had incorporated into the song months before our mixing date', Marie revealed. 'As I was getting ready to leave for the mixing session, the same flood sirens were going off all over town and the rain was pounding down - I felt like I was living inside of my own song.'
