The Verve Richard Ashcroft Coldplay Keys To The World Chris Martin Bittersweet Symphony

Former The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft is being given a boost as he attempts to break America again - Coldplay have asked him to tour with them.

In a bid to promote his hit new album Keys To The World, Ashcroft will play his first US shows in six years as support on the upcoming Coldplay stadium tour.

Ashcroft is a longtime friend of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who recently named him "the best singer in the world", and joined the group for a rendition of The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony anthem at last summer's (05) Live 8 concert.

Former The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft has vowed never to reform the band that brought him fame and fortune.

The Bittersweet Symphony hitmaker is currently promoting his new solo album Keys To The World, and insists he will never return to his earlier roots.

He says, "You're more likely to get all four Beatles on stage."

Former The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft is convinced buxom country singer Dolly Parton will sing his songs after he retires.

The Bittersweet Symphony hitmaker, who plans on retiring in the next decade, is looking forward to watching his music being performed by a number of veteran stars, including 9 TO 5 star Parton.

He says, "I've seen it. In my head, I've seen the show of covers. Dolly Parton will be singing SONNET.

Coldplay Reunite With Ashcroft For American Tour Dates


Coldplay Richard Ashcroft Bittersweet Symphony Fiona Apple

Rockers Coldplay plan to turn the second leg of their 2006 winter tour in North America into a supergig by inviting former THE VERVE star Richard Ashcroft to open for them.

Ashcroft joined the group on stage at Live 8 for a version of The Verve's anthem Bittersweet Symphony and will now join the FIX YOU hitmakers on their tour from 20 March (06).

Fiona Apple will support the group on all other dates on the tour, which begins in Vancouver, Canada on 25 January (06).

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin gets embarrassed when he thinks about his band's duet with Richard Ashcroft at the London leg of Live 8, because they played like "c**p".

Coldplay teamed up with Ashcroft at the 2 July (05) charity event to sing The Verve hit Bittersweet Symphony, but Martin wishes they'd rehearsed a little more beforehand.
