Country star Billy Ray Cyrus has written a song especially for his late racing legend pal DALE EARNHARDT.

The track, called The Man, will be featured on Cyrus' upcoming self-titled gospel album.

He says of Earnhardt, "He was a friend of mine, and I played the song for his widow TERESA. She said, 'There've been a lot of tribute songs, but I think this one is going to mean the most to his fans."

Earnhardt died in a car crash at Florida's DAYTONA 500 in 2001.

Cyrus, who plans to release the album towards the end of the year (04), adds, "In the 10 albums I've done, I think it's going to be one of my favourites. I wrote most of the songs on this album, and it's got so much passion and realism to it, I'm anxious for people to hear it."
