Scottish comedian Billy Connolly has slammed Australian Prime Minister John Howard after the leader criticised bad language on television.

Howard claimed swearing on TV has prompted a demise in Aussie manners.

But the foul-mouthed funnyman insists there is nothing wrong with cursing, on special occasions.

Connolly says, "How dare he? What a silly, boring little man. His only function is to let you know what Harry Potter's going to look like when he's old. I would run miles to avoid meeting him.

"It's a load of rubbish. There are times to swear and times not to swear - I swear but I'm very, very good at it and no animals were hurt while I was learning how to do it."
