Billie Joe Armstrong was rushed to hospital this past weekend, forcing Green Day to cancel a spot at the I-Festival in Bologna, Italy. The rockers are yet to disclose details about Armstrong's illness, though it's understood that they'll be back on stage in the near future.
Armstrong's band-mates Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool released a video statement to offer their apologies to fans, saying, "We apologize profusely.Billy got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness. The doctors don't think it's a good idea for him to play today. We're beyond devastated. We're as sad as you guys are. Billie's extremely upset about it, and we'll see you very soon". It's set to be a busy couple of months for Armstrong and his band. The singer - somewhat bizarrely - has signed up to help Christina Aguilera find America's next big singing talent on 'The Voice', while Green Day have completely work on their trio of albums Uno, Dos and Tre - the first of which hits shelves on September 25, 2012.
After news of Billie Joe's illness began to spread, a number of famous faces wished the rocker a speedy recovery on Twitter, including tennis star Serena Williams, who said, "I hope you are ok Billie Joe Armstrong". One fan joked, "Green Day's singer Billie Joe Armstrong rushed to hospital, hopes to make a statement to fans when he comes around".
