Jay Z and Beyonce both have thriving careers, they just choose to do a ton of stuff together – including their upcoming summer tour. Music’s first couple will embark on a nationwide tour starting in June and ending in August, with 16 dates in between.

The music royals have been hinting at a joint tour for some months.

The married couple first stirred anticipation that they'd tour together in early April, but the buzz was initially dampened by Jay Z revealing that his 2014 "Made in America" music festival will play in both Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Everyone assumed that this was the big joint announcement, because Beyonce was (and still is) one of the performers.

We should know better than to underestimate those two by now. From the king and queen of surprises – Beyonce did slip an entire album past everyone last December – came the announcement of their “On The Run” tour, complete with a photo of Mr. and Mrs. Carter wearing ski masks. Because why not?

Jay Z and Beyonce both released albums last year.

Jay and Bey’s rise to shared world domination began with their first collaboration – 2003’s Crazy in Love. The two were married in 2004 and continued to collaborate on songs, videos, live appearances, etc. Last December, the couple put out their latest – the controversial Drunk in Love – in celebration of their upcoming ten year anniversary.

With their "On the Run" tour, the duo are hoping to use their combined star power for good.

Jay and Bey do have a flair for the dramatic.

A dollar from each "On the Run" ticket sold will go toward the Shawn Carter Foundation, an organization that helps underserved groups go to college. The tour is also being presented in partnership with Beyonce's #BeyGOOD campaign, which seeks to inspire charitable work, kindness and community involvement. Tickets go on sale May 2.
