On the 15th anniversary of the tragic death of R&B star Aaliyah, a tribute has been paid to her by an auspicious modern star in the shape of Beyonce, who posted a distinctly fangirl-y interview snippet she did with the late star back in 2000.

Beyonce, one of the world’s biggest stars and who has just slayed the public and critics alike with her recent Lemonade album, was just 18 and still in Destiny’s Child when she got the opportunity to do a very brief red carpet interview with Aaliyah at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

On Thursday (August 25th), 15 years to the day that Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash at the young age of 21, Beyonce posted the throwback clip to her Instagram account.

“Miss Aaliyah, so good to see you. How you doing, girl?” Beyonce asks her more famous counterpart in the video. “What are you looking forward to seeing tonight?”

Aaliyah, who at that point had just finished filming her part in the movie Romeo Must Die, told Bey that she was looking forward to seeing rapper D’Angelo.

“Girl, I'm with you 'cause you know he's fine,” Beyonce responded with a gushing exhale. “He's fine. He's hot. He's sexy,” Aaliyah agreed with her.

The late singer is considered one of the most influential and innovative acts in R&B, with the likes of Bey and Ciara citing her singing style as being one of their artistic cornerstones. The short interview is heartwarming, as it shows Beyonce as more of the starstruck fangirl as opposed to the imperious Queen of Pop she’s now become in 2016, with master and then-apprentice meeting face to face.
