Beyonce and husband Jay Z are to hold a fundraising dinner for President Barack Obama in New York City next week, the Obama team confirmed to the New York Daily News on Thursday (September 13, 2012).
Celebrity fundraisers are predictably lavish affairs and Beyonce’s bash will be no different. At $40,000 a head, the fundraiser certainly comes in at the “extremely exclusive” end of things, and will be held at Jay Z’s swanky Chelsea hotspot the 40/40 Club. In a message urging supporters to contribute $25 to the President’s re-election campaign (for the chance to win tickets to the soiree), Beyonce wrote, “I’ve had the honor of meeting President Obama and the First Lady a few times — and believe me — it’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss…We believe in his vision… share his belief that we’re greater together and that’s why we’re getting involved.” Attendance will be capped at just 100 people, though it’s far from the first time the superstar couple have supported the President and his wife, and probably won’t be the last. In 2008, Beyonce famously serenaded the newly elected President at an Inaugural Ball, while Jay Z and pal Kanye West often show their support for Obama.
The fundraiser will have to go-some to emulate George Clooney’s recent bash for the President, ‘The Descendants’ star raising almost $15 million for the campaign at his Los Angeles in May.
