The Planned 2016 Release For The Much-anticipated Fourth Instalment Of The Beverly Hills Cop Franchise Has Been Put On An Indefinite Hold By Movie Bosses At Paramount.
The film project has been in the works since 2013 and was slated to premiere next year (16).
Franchise star Eddie Murphy is on board to reprise his Axel Foley character, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing and Brett Ratner directing, but the project's 25 March (16) release date has been scrapped, and it is now unclear when the movie will hit the big screen.
In 2013, a TV spin-off based on the film was cancelled after creators were unable to land a deal with any of the major networks.

Ryan remained positive, telling fans on Twitter.com that executives at Paramount Pictures had decided to develop a movie based on the success of the culled series' pilot episode and the project is "moving fast".

The funnyman has ruled out a return to the big screen for a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie, but he insists the franchise is far from dead - and he's planning on making cameos in the TV series.
He tells the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine, "What I'm trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I'd do the pilot, show up here and there."
Murphy admits there was talk about a Beverly Hills Cop IV but "none of the movie scripts were right".

Composer-producer HAROLD FALTERMEYER's synth-pop Beverly Hills Cop anthem AXEL F is set for yet another revamp - moviemaker Brett Ratner plans to bring the catchy tune back when he makes the fourth film in the franchise.
The instrumental has already been a massive hit twice - for Faltermeyer and Crazy Frog - and Ratner hopes to give the Grammy-winning tune another spin when he makes BHC IV with Eddie Murphy next year (09).
The director says, "Why change that song? It'll be back but it'll be a whole new interpretation."
And Ratner tells Eonline.com that fellow moviemaker Michael Mann made a big mistake by not using the iconic Miami Vice theme for his 2006 Colin Farrell-starring remake of the classic TV show.

LATEST: Photographs of Eddie Murphy's ex-girlfriend Melanie Brown frolicking in Hawaii with her so-called 'mystery man' have been published in British newspaper the News Of The World.
The Hollywood star allegedly dumped former SPICE GIRL Brown after being handed another set of snaps last month (NOV06), showing the singer reportedly enjoying an illicit date with the male friend in Los Angeles.
The images published in the newspaper today (17DEC06) - showing a scantily-clad Brown and her companion relaxing on the beach - were shot in May (06) - just weeks before Brown started dating Murphy and immediately becoming pregnant.
The Beverly Hills Cop actor reportedly hired a team of private detectives to follow Brown after becoming convinced she was cheating on him, and he ended their relationship.
Brown and Murphy started dating in June (06), but the Hollywood star cut all ties with the former Spice Girl earlier this month (05DEC06) and he's now demanding a DNA test to determine whether he's the father of her unborn baby.
An eyewitness of Brown's summer frolics tells the tabloid, "Mel and this fella were all over each other and quite obviously a couple. They couldn't keep their hands off each other."
A source close to Murphy adds, "Everyone thought it was suspicious that Mel fell pregnant so quickly after getting together with Eddie. Now he thinks the same. After seeing these photos he's convinced he's not the dad.
"And he won't believe any different until DNA tests are carried out after the baby is born. As far as Eddie's concerned this mystery man had as much chance of fathering the child as he did."
The company who created the chart-topping Crazy Frog ringtone have been fined GBP40,000 ($72,000) and told to refund clients who were duped into joining a costly subscription service.
The animated character's annoying take on HAROLD FALTERMEYER's AXEL F theme tune from Beverly Hills Cop became the first ringtone to top the UK singles chart in June (05).
But disgruntled British fans who downloaded the song to their mobile phone soon discovered they had automatically been signed up for a GBP5 ($9)-a-week subscription service.
