Singer Beverley Knight was terrified ahead of her role in the stage version of The Bodyguard, until she remembered Whitney Houston made her acting debut in the movie.

Houston starred in the 1992 film version of The Bodyguard, which went on to become one of the world's highest-grossing movies.

Knight began rehearsing for the role of Houston's character Rachel Marron in September (13) and made her stage debut on Thursday night (17Oct13) in London - and she is adamant thoughts of Houston helped overcome her stage fright.

She tells the London Evening Standard, "It was a big, big role to fill, but I took comfort from the fact that she had never acted before either. I know those songs, I know what they mean - I know the place they are coming from so all I was interested in was making Rachel Marron my Rachel as opposed to 'Bev does Whitney'."
