John Cusack's Rush Limbaugh Biopic Set To Go Into Production?

John Cusack Rush Limbaugh Betty Thomas

John Cusack's Rush Limbaugh biopic has been given the green-light, according to Deadline.com. Though the project is still in its early stages, Cusack will reportedly play the US conservative talk show host in a movie directed by Betty Thomas (Private Parts).

It is thought the film will focus on the radio host's three-decade rise to prominence. His syndicated show is now the highest rated in America, with a weekly audience of 15 million listeners. The as-yet-untitled biopic won't have a partisan take on the controversial host, despite Cusack's liberal convictions. "The script would explore the rise and reinvention of American talk radio, and Limbaugh's continued influence and impact over the last three decades in that world," said a spokesman for production company True Crimes Productions.

Limbaugh hit the headlines this summer after accusing Christopher Nolan's Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises of using Tom Hardy's Bane to damage Mitt Romney's run for the Presidency. According to The Guardian, he's previously raised eyebrows by proclaiming that African Americans are "left behind" socially because they have been trained to hate the U.S. He also insists that feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to mainstream society.

John Cusack's production company, New Crime Productions, is currently developing a biopic about conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, said Friday (Nov 2).

Director Betty Thomas, who's set to work on the film - although it hasn’t been made clear whether she will direct - said the production company are applying the final few touches to the script and that will Cusack will star as Limbaugh. Production for the film, which has the working title of Rush, is set to begin next year, according th The Associated Press.

Although they couldn’t be any more dissimilar, with Cusack a tall, full haired liberal compared with Limbaugh’s overtly right-wing attitude and portly, balding figure being something of a mismatch, we doubt it’ll be too much of a problem once Hollywood’s finest get to work on the project.

Surviving Christmas Review

Good
Halloween hasn't arrived yet and we're already getting the first holiday film of the season. Despite opening to the tune of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," the timing of Surviving Christmas could not feel worse. We haven't even set our clocks back, and the trees haven't lost their leaves, but we're supposed to believe that Christmas is right around the corner? Fat chance, Santa -- this film won't even survive long enough to see turkey day. But, it's just that kind of attitude that makes this spiteful little movie work.

Ben Affleck plays the lonely but wealthy media marketing executive Drew Latham. He prefers to ditch his family this holiday and take his materialistic girlfriend Missy (Jennifer Morrison) on a first-class trip to Fiji. Missy emphatically rejects his offer and dumps him for wanting to take her away from her family at Christmas. At the advice of Missy's quack psychologist, Drew's therapy is to write down all of his grievances with his family and burn them in front of his childhood home. While this ridiculously manufactured scenario presents a good treatment option for Drew, to the rest of us, it reeks of rotten eggnog.

I Spy Review

Terrible
I Spy is based on a popular 1960s television show by the same name where two mismatched spies, one white (Robert Culp) and one black (Bill Cosby), engage in wild antics to fight evil around the world. For a series during the middle of the civil rights era, it was considered groundbreaking. Unfortunately, the movie version completely disrespects this inventiveness of the original series. In fact, the movie is thoroughly insulting.

Owen Wilson is Alex Scott, a second-rate super-spy for the BNS (think CIA, I guess), who is always relegated to the department's least desirable assignments. Other BNS spies, like the suave Bond-like Carlos (Gary Cole), are equipped with the most sophisticated spy tools and receive the most attractive jobs. Scott's newest mission though, requires him to travel to Budapest, Hungary with beautiful fellow agent Rachel Wright (Famke Janssen) to prevent the sale of an invisible stealth spy plane. Some of the world's worst criminals have gathered in Budapest for a party sponsored by criminal mastermind Gundars (Malcolm McDowell). He plans to sell this plane during the celebration for an upcoming boxing match, which happens to involve the wildly flamboyant American featherweight boxing champion Kelly Robinson (Eddie Murphy). The BNS officials recruit Robinson to help Scott and Wright get into the party and accomplish their mission.

Can't Hardly Wait Review

Excellent
Surprisingly well-realized teen party film about the last night a bunch of high school kids have as, well, high schoolers. Follows a dozen often hilarious stories, the least interesting of which, unfortunately, is the Ethan Embry-Jennifer Love Hewitt wannabe romance. Otherwise, a really good movie and a lot of fun. Recommended.

Guess Who Review

Very Good
Simon Green (Ashton Kutcher), an anxious, young businessman, is about to journey with his girlfriend, Theresa (Zoe Saldana), to meet her parents for the first time. They also intend to announce their recent engagement, so it's going to be a very eventful trip. But there's one small problem. She's black. He's white. And she hasn't told her parents yet.

Theresa's father, Percy (Bernie Mac), another businessman, has completed underground investigation on Simon, and he likes what he's found. Percy admires Simon for holding a position at a prestigious business; though, Percy doesn't know (and neither does Theresa, for that matter) that Simon just quit this job. Percy and his wife, Marilyn (Judith Scott), live a traditional, affluent life, and are looking forward to meeting the lucky guy who's dating their beautiful daughter, but they're in for quite the surprise.
