French singer Bertrand Cantat has launched a desperate appeal to serve the remainder of his murder sentence in his homeland, after he was jailed for beating his actress girlfriend Marie Trintignant to death in Lithuania.
In March (04), Cantat, 40 - the singer of rock band NOIR DESIR - was found guilty of murdering 41-year-old Trintignant following a fight in their Vilnuis, Lithuania hotel room last July (03) and was ordered to spend eight years in prison.
Justice official MINDAUKAS SILKAUSKAS says, "Usually the procedure takes from one month to three, but this is a first case of handing of prisoner to France, so it could last longer, some two to four months."
Cantat's lawyer VIRGINIJUS PAIRTIS has confirmed the incarcerated singer's request asking to serve his sentence in France was handed to Lithuanian officials on 28 June (04).
He says, "The procedure has started and we hope it will go smoothly."05/07/2004 09:02
