Oscar-winning Italian moviemaker Bernardo Bertolucci is set to be honoured with a lifetime achievement award from the European Film Academy.

The Last Tango In Paris director will pick up the top prize at the organisation's European Film Awards ceremony in Malta in December (12), when he will be feted for his contribution to film.

He will join actress Dame Helen Mirren, who was previously announced as the winner of the European Achievement in World Cinema award, at the gala in Valletta, Malta on 1 December (12).
