Just last week it was officially confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as the titular character in Marvel's forthcoming 'Doctor Strange,' and now the British actor has finally commented on landing the role.

While walking the red carpet at the 2014 British Independent Film Awards, in support of 'The Imitation Game,' on Sunday (Dec 7th) Cumberbatch spoke with reporters about his excitement for playing the Sorcerer Supreme.

"Really excited, you know?" the 38-year-old actor said when asked about his feelings on the new gig. "There's a lot of work to be done and I'm just at the beginning so I don't want to talk much about it, but it's a thrilling gig to get."

This past Thursday (Dec 4th), Marvel announced that the British actor was cast as the star of the upcoming flick, which will hit theatres hit theaters on Nov. 4, 2016.

"Stephen Strange's story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity," said Producer Kevin Feige. "In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character."

American filmmaker Scott Derrickson will be directing 'Doctor Strange,' which was first released into the Marvel Universe over 50 years ago in 1963, and follows a former neurosurgeon who was appointed as the Sorcerer Supreme. He was the main protector for Earth against threats that involved magical and mystical elements.

'Strange', who was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, first appeared in the comic book series 'Stranger Tales,' before going on to have his very own series, and eventually crossing over to other comic books that included 'The Fantastic Four,' 'Spider-Man' and 'Nick Fury.
