Black Mass Trailer

Whitey Bulger has had the FBI under his thumb for too long, and now people are starting to notice. How can a criminal mastermind responsible for every major offence in the city pass by seemingly unnoticed for an entire lifetime? It's true he landed in Alcatrez at a young age, but the older the more dangerous he becomes; a kingpin of the South Boston criminal underworld who escaped justice by informing authorities of all movements of the rival gang, the Italian Mafia, as suggested by his most useful contact and friend John Connolly. But the Irish Winter Hill Gang is growing ever more powerful, and Bulger's feelings of invincibility lead to more and more murders and destruction. It's time he was stopped, but finding him is not going to be easy.

When asked how the new setting might change Sherlock’s character Moffat said, “Sherlock is a little more polished. He operates like a Victorian gentleman instead of a posh, rude man. He’s a lot less brattish.” But as for Dr Watson, being back in Victorian Britain will cause Martin Freeman’s character to be ‘more uptight’, according to Moffat.

Black Mass - Teaser Trailer

Irish-American criminal mastermind Whitey Bulger was arguably one of the most dangerous men in America before his arrest in 2011 at the age of 81. He'd already spent time in Alcatrez as a much younger man, having spent a lot of time on the streets of South Boston. However, by the 70s he proved to be the FBI's best tool in controlling organised crime within the country, and he was eventually persuaded by his friend John Connolly to be their informant in all workings of the rival Italian Mafia. However, it's not safe business being both a highly respected gangster and a police informant, and while much of his activity is being largely ignored as he rises to become top of the Irish Winter Hill Gang, it seems he is gaining too many killings and dodgy dealings under his belt to go unnoticed.

Increase The Licence Fee To Save BBC Drama, Says Exiting Chief Behind 'Sherlock' And 'Poldark'

Ben Stephenson, the outgoing controller of drama commissioning at the BBC, has said the licence fee needs to be increased, or the broadcaster will be forced to slash its drama output. In his farewell interview with the Radio Times, Stephenson, who helped bring shows such as ‘Sherlock’ and ‘Doctor Who’ to British screens, described the BBC as being at a "tipping point” thanks to the licence fee cap.

SherlockBen Stephenson was responsible for bringing ‘Sherlock’ to British TV screens.

Currently the licence fee paid by British television owners is capped at 2010's price of £145.50 until 31 March 2017, but thanks to inflation Stephenson says the cap is effectively a cut to the BBC's budget. "It really can't keep cutting... And the truth is the market isn't going to fill the gap," he told the Radio Times.

'Sherlock', starring Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch as a modern Sherlock Holmes, is one of the BBC's most loved shows, but even though it started back in 2010, there have only been nine episodes across three series so far, plus the 2013 Christmas mini-episode. The next instalment will arrive at Christmas, despite the fact that's it's already been a whole year since the last one.

Benedict Cumberbatch's Globes Photobomb: The Oscar Selfie Of 2015

Benedict Cumberbatch Meryl Streep Margaret Cho Michael Keaton Amy Poehler Golden Globe Awards

These days, it’s not an award show without an official selfie or photobomb or whatever image-related bandwagon Hollywood is hopping on that week. I’m talking, of course, about Benedict Cumberbatch, that painstaking “penguin” pronouncing pun producing pharaoh of the internet (feel free to pitch in a synonym starting with “p”).

Benedict Cumberbatch
Benedict Cumberbatch: the most awkward Brit in showbiz?

Here’s the backstory. Displaying the typical Hollywood amount of cultural sensitivity, hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were doing a bit on North Korea. Meanwhile, Meryl Streep was posing for a photo-op with an in-disguise Margaret Cho. Oh, and guess who was behind the camera? A treat for older viewers – it was Michael Keaton. It kind of begs the question - is BC's photobomb this year's Oscars selfie?

Could Sophie Hunter be pregnant?

Affectionately nicknamed 'Cumberbaby' by media reports, the news has spread despite any official confirmation from the couple or their representatives. Instead, an unknown source has apparently revealed the news that Hunter is pregnant to New York Post's 'Page Six' website. 'Sophie is a few months along, and both she and Benedict are very excited about it', they said. 'They are also quietly planning to marry in early Spring.'

Risk? What Risk? Benedict Cumberbatch Is Ready For 'Doctor Strange'

Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch was perhaps the surprise choice to play Marvel's Doctor Strange, though the British actor - who could be "the Oscar-winning British actor" come February - insists he does not consider the big-budget comic book movie to be a potential pitfall.

Benedict CumberbatchBenedict Cumberbatch isn't concerned about the potential pitfalls of Doctor Strange

"I don't think it's a risk because of Marvel," he told the Wall Street Journal, bluntly. "Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods. It's very different, it's an Astral Plane. There's a huge new element to this Marvel universe that's going to be employed in building this story and this character."

Benedict Cumberbatch Thinks Playing 'Doctor Strange' Isn't "A Risk Because Of Marvel"

Benedict Cumberbatch

Early last month it was officially confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as the titular character in Marvel's forthcoming 'Doctor Strange,' and although this is the British actor's first role with Marvel Studios, he isn't worried about it one bit.

The 2015 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards saw accolades going to some very well-deserved movies from the last year - with some even more well-deserved individuals picking them up.

Unsurprisingly, the Ensemble Cast Award went to the actors from 'The Imitation Game'; a movie depicting the era-defining career of codebreaker Alan Turing during World War II and his subsequent arrest for being homosexual. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role, with the likes of Allen Leech, Matthew Beard and Alex Lawther - the latter of whom plays Turing's younger self. Directed by the BAFTA nominated Morten Tyldum, the movie has already been nominated for five Golden Globes, and it definitely looks to be in line for an Academy Award.

The Hobbit Brings Peter Jackson's Saga Full Circle

Peter Jackson Martin Freeman Benedict Cumberbatch Richard Armitage The Lord Of The Rings

With 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies', Peter Jackson has completed a second trilogy of films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novels 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord Of The Rings'. But fans are wondering if he might have one more trilogy up his sleeve, as Tolkien wrote plenty more material about Middle Earth, including the novel 'The Silmarillion', short stories and more appendices and indices.

Jackson has already expanded 'The Hobbit' from a meandering little road trip into a massive battle trilogy using some of Tolkien's extra material, but the issue going forward is that the Tolkien estate owns everything that isn't contained in the 'Hobbit' or 'Rings' books, and they're apparently not happy with what Jackson did with The Hobbit.

Keira Knightley Is Pregnant With Her First Child

Keira Knightley Shock Machine Benedict Cumberbatch

Keira Knightley has rounded off a memorable 2014 after reports that she’s expecting her first baby.

The 29 year old British actress is pregnant with her first child with her husband James Righton, a former member of the recently demised indie-dance group Klaxons, whom she married in the south of France early in 2013.

The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies Review

Very Good

Peter Jackson's expanded take on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit comes to a conclusion in a battle epic packed with enormous action sequences that oddly distract attention from the much more engaging central plotline. By the time it thunders to its satisfying conclusion after nearly two and a half hours, there's a sense of balance restored, providing some powerfully emotional moments along with the thrills. But there's a lot of chaotic mayhem to get through first.

The action picks up immediately, as the dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) roars into Laketown causing further desolation before being stopped by the heroic Bard (Luke Evans), who then leads the survivors back to their long-abandoned city in the mountains. Meanwhile, dwarf king Thorin (Richard Armitage) has reclaimed his throne and Smaug's enormous stash of gold, which consumes his soul with greed. But he abandons his promises to Bard and the elf leader Thranduil (Lee Pace), who assembles the elf army against him. So Thorin calls in a dwarf battalion to take them on. Meanwhile, the hobbit Bilbo (Martin Freeman) is trying to diffuse the situation and snap Thorin out of his avaricious funk. And wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) discovers that two waves of ruthless orcs are descending on Thorin.

All of this strategising and squaring-off feels fragmented and uneven, as Jackson cuts back and forth between the sprawling ensemble cast while trying to build momentum toward the earth-rattling collision of these five armies. Thankfully, there's also a lot of interpersonal stuff going on to hold the interest. Elf warrior Legolas (Orlando Bloom) is still caught up in a romantic triangle with his intended Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly) and her forbidden love, the unusually hot dwarf Kili (Aidan Turner). And there's some comic relief from Alfrid (Ryan Gage), a weaselly human who worms his way into Bard's inner circle for some inexplicable reason. Best of all is the push and pull between Bilbo and Thorin, which is very nicely played by Freeman and Armitage.
