The actor Ben Whishaw is bringing Q back to James Bond, in Skyfall. In the first two Daniel Craig Bond films, Q was notably absent. However, Entertainment Weekly have reported that the master of spy technology is set to return in the forthcoming Bond movie Skyfall. Whishaw is best known for his appearances in 'Perfume', 'I'm Not There' and 'Bright Star.'
They've also published a few publicity snaps of Whishaw in character, looking every bit the science geek, in shirt and tie and what appears to be a brown cardigan, peering out through a pair of spectacles. A serious looking Daniel Craig lurks in the background. This will mark the first time that the actor playing Q is younger than James Bond's actor (Whishaw is 31, whereas Craig is 44). Other actors to have tackled the role of Q, throughout the years include Peter Burton, Desmond Llewelyn and John Cleese. The producers of Skyfall, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said of Whishaw's appointment: "It's a real thrill to confirm the return of Q in 'Skyfall' played by the enormously talented, Ben Whishaw. We are delighted to have this beloved character back in the series," the Daily Mail reported.
Skyfall is directed by Sam Mendes and sees Daniel Craig return to the role for the third time. Mendes reveals that he was drawn to the job by two of the movies principal actors: Daniel Craig and Judi Dench. "I didn't just say yes to doing a Bond movie, I said yes to doing a Bond movie with Daniel Craig. this Bond movie, and Judi Dench. Judi, to me, is one of the great actors of the English-speaking world and so it's a question of, well, a little bit like, what can we give her that will take her to another level we've never seen her before? What can we do with her that will surprise or challenge even her?"
