Veteran actor Ben Kingsley had to be rescued from a set of false teeth by controversial director Roman Polanski, while filming a remake of Oliver Twist.

The GHANDI Oscar-winner, who was wearing the dentures for his role as FAGIN in a fresh adaptation of the CHARLES DICKENS classic, was shocked to realise that the grotesque false teeth were stuck in his mouth - and feared that he might never get them out again.

He says, "It was terrible. I thought 'This is it, for life.'

"Roman Polanski, the director, rushed up the stairs with pliers and an electric screwdriver. He eased them off the tooth and pulled them out. They were jammed on that one tooth."

"It was a frightening moment."
