Ailing movie star Ben Gazzara is trying to beat cancer with stagefright, by signing up for a new play about baseball hero YOGI BERRA.

The actor, 73, is still recovering from treatment he received to reverse his cancer of the mouth, and, though he can't swallow properly, he's not letting the disease stop him from taking on the role of a lifetime.

Gazzara, a baseball fan, will play sporting hero Berra in off-Broadway, New York, play NOBODY DON'T LIKE YOGI.

He says, "The radiation cooked my saliva glands and the lack of saliva makes me dry up. I can't drink water because it remains in my mouth because I can't swallow it fast enough."
