Actor Ben Foster will portray disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong in a forthcoming biopic.

The 3:10 to Yuma star has signed on to play former Tour de France champion in a new movie, which will chart Armstrong's rise to fame in the 1990s, his battle with cancer and his domination of cycling that was erased following his doping confession last year (12).

Bridesmaids star Chris O'Dowd will play the Irish journalist who helped expose the prevalence of doping in the cycling world, while Guillaume Canet and Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons have also been confirmed for supporting roles.

Stephen Frears will direct the film.
