These heroes are 'good guys at the opposite ends of a conflict'.
As 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' continues to make waves at the box office both domestically and internationally, Ben Affleck opens up on bringing his embodiment of Bruce Wayne to life on the big screen, next to an already well-rounded Superman who was played by Henry Cavill for the second time after 'Man of Steel'.
Batman blames Superman for his friends' deaths according to Ben Affleck
The movie was, in essence, a sequel to 'Man of Steel', following on from the tragic Black Zero disaster which saw Superman's destructive battle with General Zod result in calamity across Metropolis. Batman's own world has been rocked by it, but to him, none of this would've happened if Superman hadn't taken it upon himself to save mankind with his own volatile powers.
'He loses friends during the Black Zero event and blames Superman, and channels all his rage and disillusionment at him', Affleck explains. Of course, the big question that's been on everybody's lips (and still has people scratching the heads) is: why are they fighting in the first place? Given that they're both superheroes with skills and resources and different areas, it would make sense that working together to protect mankind would have more benefit the world more than they would individually - and, indeed, more so than their war against each other.
'I think it's interesting to note that these two guys who are at total odds actually want the same things in truth', says Affleck. 'Everybody thinks of them both as good guys and the movie points out that two people who both consider themselves good guys can find themselves at opposite ends of a conflict.'

Batman's attitude towards the criminal underworld of Gotham has always been one of revenge for the death of his parents at a young age. He uses his fortune to create weapons and other such necessary items to aid him in his guerilla attacks on those who dare prey on the vulnerable people of Gotham. Meanwhile, Superman uses his alien powers with reluctance, but merely to protect mankind from destruction and never with intention to kill. However, their antipathy towards each other is thrown into more mystery by the fact that Bruce Wayne is a changed man.
'Zack [Snyder] approached me and had a really specific take on the character and wanted to do a guy who was not 25 and mourning the death of his parents and deciding to become a vigilante', he reveals. 'Instead it's a guy who has been a vigilante for twenty years and was feeling like 'What's the point? Is it worth anything, what we've done?'.'
