John Cusack is in talks to star in 'Grand Piano'.

The 'Raven' actor has entered negotiations about appearing alongside Elijah Wood in the psychological thriller, which will be directed by Spanish helmer Eugenio Mira.

John's role in the movie, which will be penned by Damien Chazelle, is yet to be confirmed but the film tells the story of a concert pianist (Elijah) who is struck down by a bad case of stage fright that causes him to go into early retirement before he is forced back into performing, Variety reports.

Spike Jonze Auctions Lunch Date


Spike Jonze Being John Malkovich

Being John Malkovich director Spike Jonze is putting himself up for auction to raise money for an educational charity.

The generous filmmaker has offered to take the auction's winning bidder to lunch in Los Angeles or New York sometime this year (12).

The Charity Buzz auction is expected to fetch $8,000 (£5,000) when it ends on 19 January (12).

Jonze is handing proceeds over to ScholarMatch, a website organising sponsorship for college students in need of financial aid.

Cameron Diaz has been named the Female Star of the Year by CinemaCon.

The 'Green Hornet' actress will pick up the prize at Ceasers Palace in Las Vegas on March 30 and CinemaCon chief Mitch Neuhauser claimed she was an "unparalleled" screen star.

He said in a statement: "Since making her debut on the big screen in 'The Mask', Cameron Diaz has continued to capture the attention of audiences around the world with her inescapable charm, innate comedic timing, and unparalleled screen presence.

Jack Black has compared the new 'Muppets' movie to 'Being John Malkovich.

The actor and comedian - who is set to appear as himself in the 2011 film - explained the upcoming movie, penned by his 'Gulliver's Travels' co-star Jason Segel, will be a "new twist" on the popular Muppets franchise.

He said: "It's kind of like Being John Malkovich. It is a new twist on The Muppets. Very cerebral and meta."

John Cusack threatened to sack his agent if they failed to win him the lead role in 1999 film Being John Malkovich.
Cusack was desperate to test his talents in the offbeat film - and was even more sure it was the right decision when Malkovich himself endorsed the script.
He says, "I went to the William Morris agency and said, 'Give me the script that you think is un-producable. The craziest wildest free-est (sic) thing. That no one will show anyone.
"I tracked it for four years before they got the money.
"John Malkovich called me and said, 'It's good and it's so f**king mean. It's mean about me - but I am an asshole. He said, 'We've got to do this.'"

Being John Malkovich director Spike Jonze is bringing the tale, which will feature a mix of live-action, animation and puppetry, to the big screen in 2008. CAPOTE star Catherine Keener will appear in the live-action part of the film, playing the mother of MAX, a child who ventures into a magical world of creatures after he is punished for misbehaving. Jonze will film the actors and use the video of their performance to create the actual Wild Things puppets. Whitaker explains, "We've been rehearsing, spending time with Spike to figure out the way the creatures should talk and think, and he'll take our gestures and incorporate them into the behaviour of these gigantic creatures." "I liked the book, and working with Spike in this unusual process has been rewarding for all of us, and a lot different from the work I've been doing."
