The 61-year-old musician - who has undergone seven rounds of chemotherapy in a bid to beat liver cancer - has been battling the disease for 18 months but says his doctor believes he is winning the fight.
He explained to the Daily Mail newspaper: "I've had a scare. But now I'm happy to say I'm nearly better. For more than 18 months, I have lived with an inflammation of the colon; then I was diagnosed with colon cancer, which spread to the liver. I have undergone chemotherapy, however, and the results, to quote my doctor, have been 'spectacular'. It's taken a toll but the strange thing is that I've never felt seriously ill."
Robin also ruled out reports he has been relying solely on alternative therapies although he has been drinking herbal teas.
He said: "I am not and have never been at death's door. Nor do I have a team of alternative doctors, although I'm not averse to healthy remedies. I feel they can go together with conventional medicines.
"I do eat health foods and drink herbal teas made for me by Dwina, my wife. I am under the care of Dr. Peter Harper."
