A British music promoter who worked with superstars including The Beatles and Johnny Cash has been arrested for allegedly raping a girl in the 1970s.

Police swooped on Mervyn Conn, 79, at Gatwick Airport in England in July (14) as he was about to board a plane to Italy.

He was quizzed over a woman's claims he raped and sexually assaulted her between 1975 and 1977, when she was a teenager, at his home in south London and at gig venue Wembley Arena.

Conn, who launched the International Festivals of Country Music at Wembley Arena in 1969, was later released on bail and ordered to return to a police station in September (14).

Conn tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "There have been no charges."
