Veteran comedienne Bea Arthur finds claims of cultural differences between America and Britain are exaggerated - because people in the US understand irony just as well as their UK cousins.

The former GOLDEN GIRLS star is currently performing in a one-woman show at London's SAVOY THEATRE, and thinks that good humour is appreciated everywhere.

She says, "It is entirely wrong to say that there is any difference between British and American humour - Americans get irony every bit as much as a British audience does.

"I'm a huge fan of Eddie Izzard and anyone who says he's not funny is clearly mad because everything about him is funny."
