Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann hopes his new movie Australia will match the Lord Of The Rings' success in boosting tourism for the country.
The Oscar-winning director hopes his film - starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman - will have a similar impact on Australia's tourism industry as the Lord Of The Rings had on New Zealand - the scene of the trilogy's spectacular setting.
He says, "It was a little bit of Asia, a little bit of the Wild West, a little bit of Africa - all mixed in creating a natural and truly unique environment.
"It takes it to another level because it becomes globally mythologised.
"If the film does play, if it's half good, I mean Lord of the Rings is the best example in the world ... the response as far as tourism was unprecedented and unimaginable."
