Australian funnyman Barry Humphries is recovering in hospital after emergency appendix surgery. The 73-year-old comic had an operation in a Sydney hospital on Sunday (30Dec07) and is expected to be discharged on Friday (04Jan08). His manager Harley Medcalf said, "It was a pretty straightforward operation and he's walking around now. "His attitude is very cheerful and he'll be off to America in a couple of weeks. He's always working and touring and this hasn't interrupted that at all." The star - famed for his comedy alter-ego Dame Edna Everage - is next due to appear in Glasgow, Scotland as part of the city's comedy festival on 21 March (08).
