Barbra Streisand impressed celebrity fans with an intimate performance at a New York City jazz club on Saturday (26Sep09) - 48 years after she opened at the venue to sing for Miles Davis.
Streisand sang at the Village Vanguard in 1961 on the same bill as the jazz legend, before she earned a large fanbase at local clubs in downtown Manhattan and became a Grammy-winning superstar.
Celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, celebrity designer Donna Karan, and former U.S. President Bill Clinton mingled with dozens of Streisand fans who won tickets to the event through online contests.
The rare performance from the notoriously stage-shy star included material from her upcoming album Love Is the Answer, jazz standards, and classic pop songs.
The show was such a hit, the singer's publicist Ken Sunshine has hinted that more than the 100 lucky concert-goers will have an opportunity to see the show: "There may eventually be a DVD.”
