New Police Story Review

Very Good
How many movies have been made about "the tormented Hong Kong cop?" Fifty? A hundred? It's amazing that such a large group of emotional basket cases can solve a single crime. And yet they do, even if it means blowing up half of Kowloon and wrecking a dozen police cars every time they set out on a chase.

Sarcasm aside, New Police Story (which bears no connection to the many many Police Story movies that have come before it) is a very watchable addition to the genre. Its kitchen-sink approach gives us not only Jackie Chan in an unusually deep and nuanced performance but also a gaggle of Hong Kong cinema's young A-listers chewing up and kicking down the scenery as they portray badass teen criminals with enough time and money to indulge in a string of wild crimes.

Rumble In The Bronx Review

Very Good
Jackie Chan kicks butt, gets beat up, kicks more butt, survives a collapsing building, skis in his sneakers behind a hovercraft, foils a heist, befriends a motorcycle gang, falls in love, and attends his uncle's wedding.

What more could you want?

The Legend Of Drunken Master Review

Excellent
May AA never get hold of this film. If they did, we might face massive protests over a movie that suggests that your already tight Kung Fu gets tighter when you've downed alcohol strong enough to set things on fire. We might have it censored. We might have it edited. And we might, in the process of this, never have the chance to see some of the most impressive Kung Fu fightin' caught on film.

The Legend of Drunken Master (shot in 1994 and being re-released now) revolves around Wong Fei-Hong (Jackie Chan), binge drinker and kickass Kung Fu fighter. Hoping to save his herbalist father some tariffs, Fei-Hong puts a root of ginseng in the British ambassador's box. While retrieving this, he runs into an ancient Chinese general who happens to steal the wrong box. Cool Kung Fu ensues, and we are informed that Fei-Hong happens to be a master in the art of drunken boxing -- remember that skill Keanu was trained in during The Matrix? Same thing -- a showy form of Kung Fu that often results in alcoholism.
