Argentinean rockers Babasonicos are mourning the loss of their bandmate GABRIEL MANNELLI, after the bassist succumbed to cancer on Saturday morning (12Jan08). Mannelli had been suffering from Hodgkin's lymphoma for several years and lost his fight against the disease at the weekend in Buenos Aires. He was 37. His illness forced Mannelli to pull out of the group's live performances after the release of their album Anoche in 2005, but he was a regular contributor on all of the band's earlier albums, from 1992's Pasto. Mannelli began his rock career with 1980s band Los Brujos, before moving on to play with Juana La Loca and Los MACarra. He formed Babasonicos with lead singer Adrian Rodriguez, keyboardist Diego Tunon, guitarist Diego Rodriguez, drummer Diego Castellano and guitarist Mariano Dominguez in 1991. Announcing the sad news on their website, the group's post reads: “Those of us lucky enough to know him will miss him a lot. “We will certainly remember him as someone who was different, who, among many other things, dedicated himself to making the world a place with more art.”
