Canadian stars Avril Lavigne, Sarah Mclachlan and SUM 41 are teaming up to help boost Toronto's economic and tourism problems in the wake of an outbreak of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).

The acts will perform as part of a one-day festival at the SARS-stricken city's SKYDOME on 21 June (03).

Ontario cabinet minister BRIAN COBURN - one of the brains behind the event - says, "We want summer to start with a real bang, something that's going to bring a lot of livelihood, rockin' and poppin' and all that."

Toronto's tourism industry has lost about $1 billion (US $763 million) due to SARS-related cancellations. The disease has caused 27 deaths in the area.
