Not unexpectedly this track has already received masses of airplay and is the second release from the team’s new album.
All the necessary requirements or an Athlete track are all present and correct; emotive lyrics, unmistakable vocal, funky little bit that nobody understands where it came from in the middle eight and a melody hat just can’t shake.
Athlete’s new material is a lot more appealing to a mass audience than Vehicles and Animals, but nobody ever said that was a bad thing… apart from now. Half Light doesn’t really have that quirky edge some of the bands original work is famous for; there seems to have been a real pop progression and now you might your mum singing along.
I’m sure every track on the new record, including Half Light, will hold some sort of sentimental meaning for somebody because they’re the type of songs Athlete write. Maybe a bit more exploration would allow them to dump the pigeon hole and go for it the way they do live.
