Ashley Roberts has had pre-cancerous cells removed three times.

The former Pussycat Dolls singer admits it was ''scary'' to learn she was at risk of cervical cancer but is thankful smear tests have caught the problems before things progressed further.

She said: ''I've had pre-cancerous cells removed from my cervix and it's scary. It can happen to any woman, no matter what race, sexuality or age you are.

''Fortunately, doctors caught it early. I've had to have a few procedures - in 2008, 2009, and 2012 - which is not comfortable or fun but I thank God I'm healthy now.

''I wake up every morning in gratitude for that. Health is wealth.

''Thankfully I've been clear ever since [the last procedure]. I make sure I have regular smear tests.''

The 34-year-old singer does her best to stay positive and not live in fear of the problem reoccurring.

She told Star magazine: ''I try my best to have a positive outlook because mental awareness is an important way to lead your life.''

And Ashley is thankful to have supportive friends and family around her.

She said: ''Kimberly Wyatt took me to hospital the first time and stayed with me. I'm thankful I have friends and family to help deal with it.''
