The Xbox Entertainment Original Line Up is Fresh, Bold and Varied

When Microsoft announced their next-gen console, The Xbox ONE, gamers were critical of the company’s focus on non-gaming enterprises. A few months after its release, those concerns have faded, but Microsoft’s plan to bring original content to their hardware’s streaming capabilities hasn’t.

Xbox Entertainment

Like Netflix, Xbox Entertainment Studios are planning on producing and releasing content that is exclusive to their service. And at monday's newfronts presentation, The Wrap got the inside track.

As far as committed projects go, the Halo TV series - with Steven Spielberg exec. Producing and 343 Industries/Amblin Television involved – has already been announced. There will be another Halo project, though; a feature film exec. produced by Ridley Scott and Scott Free TV President, David Zucker. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan is to direct.

More: 700,000 copies of Atari's E.T Game - said to be the worst ever made - found buried in landfill.

Then there’s “Every Street United”, a football (soccer) show that will feature greats of the game, like Thierry Henry and Edgar Davids, who search The United States, England, Argentina, Spain, Brazil, the Netherlands, Ghana and South Korea for undiscovered street stars.

“We are better off placing our bets and focusing on a finite set of projects than having the traditional television ratios of script to pilot. I'd rather be spending less time on 2-30 scripts and more time on six to 12 pilots,” Xbox Entertainment Studios chief Nancy Tellem explained.

“Traditionally you know what your business model is. You have to have a certain amount of hours per season. But here we have an unlimited source. There isn't a requirement as a number of series we need to do.”

Head over to The Wrap’s extensive coverage of what to expect content-wise on the Xbox ONE.
