Will Ferrell Talks The Iconic Ron Burgundy And Pressure To Make A Sequel
Will Ferrell made a rare appearance as himself on the lengthy 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' promotional tour and discussed playing the character Ron Burgundy as well as the pressure of making a sequel.
Will Ferrell has been on an extensive promotional tour as of late, in support of his new forthcoming film 'Anchorman 2 : The Legend Continues'.
The 46 year-old has gone to every effort in his promo duties by attending certain events as the protagonist of the film, 'Ron Burgundy'.
Will has been commended for staying in character throughout this long promotional push and seems to be pleasantly surprised by the positive reactions from the fans.
"I keep laughing at it, because this really is an aberration," he said.
"You're not going to see Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow going on 'The Tonight Show.' It's a character that lends itself perfectly to this, but I don't think I can think of any other characters from past movies I've done [who could do this], I know I'm setting myself up for the next movie I do. Another studio will be like, 'Oh, you'll do all this crazy stuff, right?' No, that was a one-off."
To name a few, Ferrell, as 'Ron Burgundy', has attended the Canadian Curling Olympics trials, starred in numerous commercials for Dodge Durango and read the news at North Dakota's FX News, all in the name of promoting.
During the Q&A session, the 'Step Brothers' actor also reveals he never expected a sequel to happen, but the pressure form fans and other outlets was getting too much.
"We never thought we'd do a sequel to begin with. And of course, the nature of entertainment media kind of follows this pattern: 'When are you ever going to make a sequel?'"
"'Please, please make a sequel. Please make a sequel. Please make a sequel.'"
He continued, "Guess what, we made a sequel. 'Are you worried about the sequel?' Are you worried about upholding the legacy of the first movie? Pretty scary! Sequels don't always work. They don't ever work in fact."
'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' hits theatres on December 18th 2013.
