Weekend Box Office: "The Lego Movie" Still Blocking "3 Days To Kill" From Making A Killing

And the weekend box office winner is… The Lego Movie, for the third week in a row. The movie collected $31.5 million in the US and Canada, to lead the North American box office for the 3rd consecutive weekend, despite two new releases this weekend. The Lego Movie’s three-week run is a rare achievement, especially in the winter off-season. The animated flick is only the second three-week chart-topper, after Ride Along. The toy adaptation has done $183.2 million in three weeks.

The Lego Movie Still
The movie just keeps Le-going.

Apart from Lego’s success, however, there’s little to report at the box office. The new Kevin Costner spy thriller 3 Days to Kill was a distant second after pulling in $12.3 million for the period from Friday to Sunday, according to studio estimates, reported by Reuters. It didn’t exactly make a killing (sorry). Critics aren’t especially fond of the thriller either, with it currently holding a 27% rotten rating on the review agregator.

If you're still considering 3 Days To Kill, you can watch the trailer below.

The third performer was Pompeii. As indicated by the title, it’s a Roman-era disaster flick (yes, Hollywood really is that low on ideas these days.) It did slightly better than 3 Days – Pompeii currently holds a 29% rating on RT – but that didn’t influence moviegoers in the slightest. Pompeii’s opening weekend wasn’t terrible, exactly – the film scored $10 million over the 3-day period, but it is by no means a star performer.

And here's the Pompeii trailer... it has lots of explosions. And Kit Harington.
