As we’ve previously said: We’re The Millers would either be an unlikely hit or perform a predictable nosedive into obscurity. And while it’s difficult to tell just yet, it looks as though it’s performed the latter in style.

The film follows David Burke (Jason Sudeikis) – a little league pot peddler – who takes on a job from a big league drug dealer.

He enlists Rose O'Reilly (Jennifer Aniston) – a stripper – to act as his wife alongside two kids, Kenny Rossmore and Casey Mathis (Will Poulter and Emma Roberts) to act as a fake family so they can move a large amount of product across the border.

It’s a premise that could have been built upon to make a funny, memorable film, but, like the critics are saying, it didn’t turn out that way.

“I'm baffled how you can throw this many relatively funny people at an idea this blatantly down-the-middle and end up with something like this,” said Drew McWeeny of HitFix.

“By ending with outtakes that wind up being the funniest part of the film, "We're the Millers" basically confesses that its talented cast would have been much better off untethered from the pedestrian screenplay,” asserts Alonso Duralde of The Wrap.

The reviews weren’t all totally negative, but if they hinted at any positivity, they tend to condescend. “An inane little time-killer with enough low laughs to placate undemanding audiences,” say The Hollywood Reporter. No rating on Rotten Tomatoes yet, but when there is, we predict a… 39% total. Watch this space.
