Following surprising reports that Las Vegas rockers The Killers invited British comedian Jimmy Carr to join them onstage at V Festival, Contact Music looks at five of the most unlikely pairings from the worlds of comedy and music:

1) The Killers and Jimmy Carr

On Sunday Las Vegas quartet The Killers were joined onstage during their headline slot at V Festival by British comic and television host Jimmy Carr.

As the band finished the main section of their set, the ‘Eight Out Of Ten Cats’ host walked on to the stage at Chelmsford’s Hylands Park to address the crowd ahead of the band’s encore, telling festival goers: “You have two options, you can call it an early night, beat the traffic and be fresher for work, or you can demand more.”

Carr then re-introduced the group who closed the festival with hit singles ‘When You Were Young’ and ‘Mr Brightside.’

While this is the first time Carr has joined the Killers on stage, the band struck up an unlikely friendship with the comedian after they both performed at Comic Relief in 2012. Singer Brandon Flowers has spoken previously how the comic also inspired the track ‘Deadlines And Commitments’ from the band’s last album Battle Born.

2) Arcade Fire and Jonathan Ross

Another unlikely pairing, the Canadian group brought out chat show host and comedian Jonathan Ross for their headline set at this year’s Coachella Festival in California.

The British funnyman lent his voice to ‘You Already Know’ from the band’s 2013 album Reflektor, introducing the track at the festival. He also repeated the stunt when Arcade Fire performed on BBC music show Later With Jools Holland earlier this year.

3) Kasabian and Noel Fielding

Glastonbury festival has seen many sights. However the vision of Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding covered in fake blood sporting an over-sized bass guitar, fake moustache, turban and cape while dancing around the Pyramid Stage was really something else.

The comic, who starred in Kasabian’s video for their 2009 single ‘Vlad The Impaler,’ has reprised his unsettling role as a flamboyantly dressed murderer for a number of the band’s live performances, but none more spectacular than his appearance with the band as they topped the bill at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

Following a short video introduction during the band’s encore, Fielding appeared onstage to mass cheers from the crowd for the group’s performance of the track.

After hugging Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno - who writes the music for the comic’s Luxury Comedy television series - Fielding left the stage at the end of the song, triumphantly declaring: “Glastonbury I suck your head like lollipop.”
