The music at a UB40 gig was so loud that it was "altering heart rhythms" and caused one fan's ear to bleed, it has been claimed.Fan Anna Webster said she left Monday's gig at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge with around 30 other people because of the excessive noise.

A spokesman for the group said he was "sorry that Anna's night was spoiled" but that no-one told the band's crew that the music was too loud. Ms Webster has been offered free tickets to another gig as an apology.

"It was just horrendously loud - the bass was vibrating even in the foyer," Webster told BBC News.

"There were so many people walking out because they couldn't deal with it. It was vibrating through your whole body - it was actually altering heart rhythms."

Ms Webster - from Cambridgeshire - said the noise caused her ear to bleed, while Angela Paffett from Alconbury said: "The bass crashed into you like a steam train. I had a pain in my chest."

Stella Jackson from Arsley in Bedfordshire also left early, calling the gig a "waste of money" and claiming it gave her a headache.

The UB40 spokesman said he believed "the vast majority of people were not affected" while a spokesman for the venue said ear plugs were made available for people on the night.

Health and safety law at the venue states that continuous sound levels should not exceed 107 dB.

In March 2013, a My Bloody Valentine gig in London was so loud that it left "many fans covering their ears and even sent a few scurrying for the exits" according to a Rolling Stone review.

UB40's latest album Getting Over The Storm reached the Top 30 in September 2013, was named BBC Radio 2's 'Album Of The Week' and received relatively strong reviews from the music press.

If it's too loud, you're too old! 107db is nothing.
