Michael Bay was attacked by two men asking for money on the Hong Kong set of 'Transformers: Age Of Extinction'.
American director Michael Bay, was attacked by two men on the set of 'Transformers: The Age Of Extinction' in Hong Kong on Thursday (Oct 17th).
One of the men attacked Bay with an air conditioner after asking him for money, the studio released a statement describing the incident as "a bizarre encounter with a man allegedly under the influence of a narcotic substance".
The statement also said, "The man, who had earlier accosted several other crew members, rushed onto the set in Quarry Bay and swung the air conditioning unit directly at Bay's head."
Adding, "The director ducked and wrested the air conditioner from his attacker, preventing what could have been a serious accident. The company's security team quickly stepped in and subdued the assault."
According to Reuters, the two attackers were brothers with the surname 'Mak', aged 27 and 28. They demanded HK$100,000 ($12,900USD) from the 48 year-old because they felt Bay owed them money for filming on that location.
A police spokeswomen stated the elder brother attacked Bay and then attacked three police officers who tried to detain him. Bay only suffered minor injuries and refused treatment, filming continued after the incident.
The culprits are facing charges of suspicion of blackmail and assault for the youngest brother whereas the oldest sibling was arrested for suspicion of assault.
Los Angeles Times reported that a Paramount spokesperson only stated she "cannot speak to that at this time" when asked about the incident.
Michael Bay posted on his own website that the men were vendors and wanted more money than the "fair price" vendors receive.
He continued, "I personally told this man and his friends to forget it we were not going to let him extort us. He didn't like that answer. So an hour later he came by my crew as we were shooting, carrying a long air conditioner unit. He walked right up to me and tried to smack my face, but I ducked threw the air unit on the floor and pushed him away."
Not the usual normal day at the office Bay is used to!
'Transformers: The Age Of Extinction' stars Mark Wahlberg and is slated for a release date on June 27th 2014.
