Tracy Morgan's condition in hospital has been upgraded for 'fair' by medical professionals who have seen the injured comedian making progress. Morgan was involved in a tragic car crash on the 7th June, which killed his mentor and fellow comedian James McNair.

"Happy to pass along that Tracy has been upgraded to fair condition, which is a great improvement," said Morgan's rep Lewis Kay on Monday in a statement. "His personality is certainly starting to come back as well."

Morgan, McNair, comedian Ardie Fuqua, Morgan's 36-year-old assistant Jeff Millea, and one other were all involved in the crash in the early hours of the 7th June. The incident occurred when the lorry, which was being driven by one Kevin Roper, slammed into the back of the group's luxury vehicle as they were returning to New York City from a comedy show in Delaware.

After the crash, Morgan and Millea were quickly airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J. Morgan was reported to have had surgery for a broken leg the day after the crash, which was rumoured to be an amputation. However, the comic's family denied that he had lost his leg.

The 45 year-old former SNL cast member was badly injured in the collision with a Walmart truck, sustaining a broken leg, a broken nose and several broken ribs. Millea's condition has also reportedly been upgraded to 'fair,' according to the NY Times.

Driver Roper, of Jonesboro, Ga., has been charged with vehicular homicide and assault by auto but has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Prosecutors have claimed that Roper had not slept "for a period in excess of 24 hours" when the accident occurred. If he is convicted on all charges, he will reportedly face 15 years in prison.
