Tom Cruise Blasts Rumours Stating That He Has Abandoned Suri In Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit
The actor is suing the publisher of 'Life & Style' and 'In Touch' magazine for claiming that he is a poor father
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' divorce will no doubt have put considerable strain on their young daughter Suri and the relationship she has with her parents, prompting some to ponder what role Tom may have in his daughter's life now she spends the bulk of her time living in New York with her mother.
Tom vehemently denies the accusations of poor parenting
Two publications, Life & Style and In Touch, have since gone on record to claim that, following their June 2012 divorce, Tom has all but cut his daughter out of his life, the same way he has been forced to cut ties with his ex-wife. Needless to say, Tom wasn't remotely happy with their supposed view on his parenting skills.
So enraged is Tom, that he has launched a class action lawsuit against the publishers of the two magazines, totalling $50 million dollars, and has insisted that he has in no way "abandoned" his youngest child. According to court documents filed by Cruise and obtained by TMZ, the actor has insisted, "I have in no way cut Suri out of my life - whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise."
The documents themselves are a somewhat revealing read, especially given the fact that Tom has yet to publicly address his June 2012 divorce from Holmes. In the docs, he goes on to list each time he saw Suri in person and goes on to recall the times they managed to stay in touch even when he was overseas filming. The court papers go on to state, "even during the times when I was working overseas and was not able to see Suri in person, we were (and continue to be) extremely close."
Suri Cruise has been living with her mother in New York City
In Touch ran the headline 'Abandoned by Daddy' in September last year, claiming that the Scientology member had given up on seeing his daughter, however Tom claims his relationship with Suri is quite the opposite, in spite of his hectic work schedule and the near-constant distance between the two. He states in the court documents that he was shooting two films at the time of the article and insists that he has managed to remain in contact with the 7-year-old despite his rigorous schedule.
"As my numerous emails with Suri's mother during this time period demonstrate, I was a constant presence in Suri's life," his court documents go on to state. The docs continue, "While I'm sure my daughter misses me when I am not with her (as I miss her), she is a very happy child, and we have a wonderful relationship and cheerful phone calls."
We contacted Tom Cruise's publicist who had no comment on the matter.
