Jk Rowling - The Wizarding World Lives Again: J. K. Rowling And Warner Bros. Team Up Over "Fantastic Beasts" Movie

Once again, J. K. Rowling’s words at the premiere of the final Harry Potter film prove true. Hogwarts will always be there to welcome those who grew up with the series home – and now, the author herself will revisit the wizarding world with one more screenplay. Before you get too excited, it won’t be a Harry Potter story per se.

After releasing two separate project, Rowling returns to the wizarding world.

Instead, Rowling’s first screenwriting effort will be based on the fictional textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, which was referenced throughout the HP series and later released by the author as a companion piece of sorts. This will be only the beginning of a brand new partnership between Rowling and Warner Bros., with more movies to follow in the coming years. According to the author’s statement, released via Variety, the books will track the adventures of Fantastic Beasts’ fictional writer, Newt Scamander. While they will, of course, be set in the same universe as the Harry Potter series, Rowling has made it clear that these will not be Harry Potter books, but will instead tell a completely separate story.

Then again, and this is purely speculative of course, fans will probably recognize some characters as celebrities in the wizarding world of Harry’s time, or predecessors of some of the HP characters. The author has been known to insert these continuity Easter eggs throughout the Harry Potter series, as she mentioned in the statement.

JK Rowling, Deathly Hallows Part II Premiere
It's not a Harry Potter film this time.

“It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ into a film,” Rowling explained. “I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of ‘Fantastic Beasts,’ realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.”

Of course, kicking off an entirely new film series is never an easy feat, but Rowling and WB do have the advantage of a built in audience. Knowing the dedication of Potterheads (of whom this writer may or may not be one,) it’s safe to say that Fantastic Beasts is almost a guaranteed success.
